Scean Mitchell is a Jamaican born artist and a graduate of the New York School of Visual Art. He was exhibiting at the Atelier Tashiro group exhibition in the Fukuoka Prefectural Art Museum. Mitchell's pieces can be very complex. Some pieces are straight photographs, others combine multiple exposures, digital photography and illustration. All his work is extraordinarily vivid and is marked with a depth that can be quite arresting. The photograph of the hawk was captured after Mitchell heard the babies, called to them and the mother came to investigate. It is a straight photograph - no digital magic.

Kunihiro Tashiro is a full time artist with a studio near Iizuka. He speaks some English. There are about 16 people in his group and he welcomes more - so if you are on that side of the city and looking to get into the art scene, he would be a good point of contact. He holds 3 or 4 exhibitions a year - his next one is at Galerie Kei, Iizuka City, from 4/15 to 4/24.
